The European School Energy Challenge 2012
The European U4energy competition is a unique opportunity for teachers and pupils to learn about energy efficiency by performing short and long term actions to help reduce daily consumption. Making better decisions about the way you use energy will also help you save on bills and reduce your carbon footprint to help build a more sustainable future.
Schools have the choice between three competition categories:
Category A: Best energy efficiency measures
Category B: Best teaching actions on efficient energy use
Category C: Best school campaign on energy efficiency
Awards and prizes will take place at two levels. At national level, schools will compete with local colleagues, followed by a regional selection with neighbour countries. At European level, schools will gain international visibility at a highly distinguished Award Ceremony in Brussels.
Schools are required to register for the challenge via the U4energy website, www.u4energy.eu, and have until 16 May 2012 to submit their entries. Entries must be based on current activities and not previous projects.
CREATE is the designated National Contact Point for U4energy in the UK and a bespoke mailbox, u4energy@create.org.uk has been set up for UK enquiries. We believe that many UK schools are already actively engaged in energy saving activities and can readily provide the evidence that is required for the three competition categories, especially schools that are participating in the Carbon Detectives programme, Generation Green, The Pod and the Eco-Schools programme. Click here for details of the evidence required and you will see how easy it is to participate!
U4energy is a European Commission initiative funded through the Intelligent Energy Europe programme.
