  ENERGY EFFICIENCY

* Organisations and businesses
  The Carbon Trust provides free energy surveys for organisations with an annual fuel bill in excess of £50,000.

  TRANSPORT
* Powershift from the Energy Saving Trust can provides grants towards the purchase of new or conversion of existing vehicles to run on cleaner fuels such as LPG.

* Sustrans provides advice on sustainable transport solutions.

  RENEWABLE ENERGY
* The Department of Industry Solar PV Demonstration Programme provides grants for small and medium scale applications of pv (photovoltaic) applications.

* The Clearskies Initiative provides grants for solar water heaters, wind & hydro power, ground source heat pumps, wood fuel stoves & boilers.

* The Energy Saving Trust provides advice and training on community renewable energy projects.

* Also from the EST, the Community Energy Initiative offers capital and development grants for community heating schemes.

A number of energy companies have established trust funds to support community based renewable energy projects.
* Scottish Power's Green Energy Trust
The Scottish Power Green Energy Trust supports the development of new renewable energy sources in the UK. It offers grants and awards for new renewable and educational projects that will lead to an increase in the use and knowledge of renewable energy sources.

* Powergen Renewables – Community Power
A recently launched scheme to assist small-scale community wind farm developments. Subject to assessment, Community Power will fund the installation of up to 3 wind turbines as part of a community project. Benefits include; an annual income invested in the community, access to education support materials for local primary schools and energy efficiency advice for householders.

* EDF (which owns London Electricity and Seeboard Energy) fund a number of schemes that may provide support for RE projects:
  • School Grounds Awards in partnership with Learning Through Landscapes www.ltl.org.uk offer 6 regional awards of up to £5000 covering London, East of England, South East, South West, North East and Nottinghamshire/Lincolnshire.
  • Helping Hands and Community Investment towards the Environment are schemes that support education and environment initiatives.
  • Sutton Bridge Community Fund supports community projects in the vicinity of the Sutton Bridge power station in Lincolnshire.
