Energy Display Meter installations begin in schools

137 English primary and secondary schools are now receiving their free Energy Display Meter (EDM) from the Department for Education and British Gas. The schools have succesfully completed the simple online application process and will soon be monitoring their energy usage in real time.

By linking the EDM to schools' IT networks staff and pupils will be able to see exactly how much energy is being used at any one time and monitor consumption throughout the year. Lessons plans will be available to incorporate findings from the EDM data into curriculum subjects such as maths, science and geography.

The EDM will help teachers and pupils to recognise the impact of reducing energy use in school and encourage behaviour change not just in schools but also at home.

If your school has not yet signed up for a free EDM then visit www.energydisplaymeter.co.uk for details on how to apply.
