WASTE WATCHERS is a 12-minute animated DVD pack about climate change. It shows a range of characters taking the issue to heart, as they struggle to understand the need to save energy.
Energy Aunt - played by one-time TV agony aunt Maureen Lipman - is a mild-mannered magazine writer who solves readers' fuel-related emotional problems:
My boyfriend doesn't care about energy conservation...
My sister's a carbon junkie...
My dad never turns the lights out...
Will global warming affect my social life?
But Energy Aunt is also a special agent from a distant solar system, on a rescue mission to save Earth from atmospheric disaster. Shedding her disguise every night, she goes on patrol to reduce emissions of greenhouse gas. Her powers include thermal vision, the ability to fly, and superhuman optimism...
The DVD is fun to watch, while showing why we all need to be more energy-efficient - and how to make a start. Produced by non-profit-making co-operative Leeds Animation Workshop, with input from experts including CREATE, it was funded by the European SAVE Programme and the Energy Saving Trust.
Suitable for use in schools or colleges, meetings or work training sessions, the DVD can be enjoyed by adults and anyone over 10 years of age. It raises awareness and provides a memorable source of information about the greenhouse effect, global warming, and simple practical measures to improve energy efficiency in everyday life.
