'Who Will Save Us?'

Who Will Save Us? is an inspirational book for children and their adults, which is being successfully used by both primary and secondary schools. It takes a positive and empowering approach to the issues of climate change and helping to resolve it. The book contains a heartfelt and engaging story about the penguins of Antarctica, which is followed by a concise and comprehensive section on what we can all do to help, from energy saving to fair trade, and a listing of useful organisations.

Supporting statements from WWF-UK, Oxfam, Sustrans, Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, The Wildlife Trusts and I Count are presented on the cover. The foreword has been written by Pen Hadow, the polar explorer.

The Who Will Save Us? Childrens and Young Peoples Project offers an educational and empowering opportunity to help resolve climate change and to help with other related issues. It is already succeeding in helping to develop sustainability in schools and the community, therefore it may assist with The DCSF Sustainable Schools Framework - 8 Doorways. It may also help with the Every Child Matters agenda, Healthy Schools status, Eco-Schools awards, and other environmental/social awards. Additionally, some schools are taking on the enterprise side of the project in full and developing these skills.

Nationally, primary and secondary schools are taking part with inspirational ideas and actions, both locally and internationally.

The project involves schools and childrens/young peoples groups being able to buy in the books at a reduced rate, and sell them at the retail price of 5.99, thereby making 2.50 per book. This profit becomes the childrens/young peoples budget. They then work together (following the message of the book) to research climate change, question, discuss and decide how to spend their budget to help. This project encourages good citizenship and many other curriculum and life skills.
