Energy Saving Trust: Energy Certification Scheme for Schools

Energy Certification Scheme for Schools

Is your school concerned about rising fuel costs and the impact energy use is having on climate change?

Would you like to participate in a scheme that will help you reduce consumption, contribute to alleviating the harmful effects of global warming and receive a national accreditation backed by the DfES?

The Energy Saving Trust's Energy Certification for Schools scheme will help you manage your energy. The scheme breaks effective management down into a number of smaller tasks, making the process easier and less daunting. The tasks should reflect the normal management structures within your school making participation even easier.

The main aim of your school is to teach, which is why the scheme encourages you to use the school building and its energy use as a learning tool. Your school is real and can be used to, bring subjects to life, and raise awareness of the financial and environmental costs of energy use amongst pupils, staff and the wider school community.

Make the most of what you currently do! Many activities may already be happening in your school so why not get credit for them? Taking part is straight forward and the benefits include:

  • energy and cost savings
  • better, more comfortable learning environments
  • better learning experiences using real world examples
  • empowered pupils and a focus for the whole school community
  • recognition of achievement through a DfES and EST issued certificate
