Ashden Awards announce UK shortlist for 2011

A shortlist of 15 trail-blazing projects has been announced to go through to the next stage of the UK 2011 Ashden Awards. UK applicants, including two schools, are spread across the country, from Brighton and Devon to Scotland and Lancashire. The ground-breaking initiatives range from an enterprise using biodiesel for community transport to programmes retrofitting homes and community groups that promote behaviour change. The judging panel will meet during the next few weeks to determine the finalists who will then receive short visits from the judges and technical assessors in the coming months. The invitation-only awards ceremony and one-day public conference will take place in London in June. The UK shortlist includes: Dorset Energy Advice Centre, Oxford Brookes University, Water Power Enterprises CIC, Cambridge Carbon Footprint Ltd, Turners Hill CE Primary School, Midlands Wood Fuel Ltd, Radian, The Big Lemon CIC, SevernWye Energy Agency Ltd, Saint Bede's Catholic High School, 10:10 UK, BioRegional Quintain Ltd, Centre for Alternative Technology Charity Limited, Keep Scotland Beautiful and Transition Town Totnes Ltd.
