Towards the ‘Energy Savvy School’: A Five-Step Plan

New technologies and approaches mean schools can now take responsibility, with no added pressure on budgets, to address the key challenges they face in improving energy efficiency, reducing costs and building a more sustainable future. IMServ has used its experience of working alongside UK schools and colleges to design a programme for effective change: Energy Savvy Schools. UK schools are invited to tap into this methodology in a way that can, for most, also be cost-neutral. As part of this process IMServ has partnered with CREATE to provide curriculum and support materials for your school.

Step 1 – Data collection

Initial survey followed by design and install of appropriate hardware, bespoke to the school’s specific environment and requirements; consumption data is collected at half-hourly intervals from across a school estate: quickly, reliably and securely.

Step 2 – Insight

Meaningful reports are extracted and interpreted. This ‘energy intelligence’ is used to support strategic decisions on improving energy use and reducing waste; this can include investigating energy-saving products, suggesting operational changes and restructuring out-of-hours use.

Step 3 – Dashboards

These easy-to-use displays communicate what’s taking place in a way that adds real impact. Dashboards can be used as an operational energy management system and as a tool to inform and engage pupils, staff and visitors.

Step 4 – Carbon and Energy Management

These easy-to-use displays communicate what’s taking place in a way that adds real impact. Dashboards can be used as an operational energy management system and as a tool to inform and engage pupils, staff and visitors.

Step 5 – The Energy Savvy School

Having realised measurable savings, we can help you to embed energy efficiency, and its role in underpinning sustainability, across your school site, with all stakeholders and as a living part of the curriculum; termly on-site visits if required to discuss patterns of usage and advise on the most effective carbon and energy saving strategies
